Summer is the season for renewal and rejuvenation, and your skin shouldn’t be an exception. You can easily freshen up your look with skin treatments that don’t require you to go under the knife. Put your best face forward this summer with the following cosmetic procedures:
Botox® injections provide a quick and effective way to rejuvenate and refresh your appearance. Botox Cosmetic smooths out frown lines, brow creases, crow’s feet, and smile lines around the nose and mouth. Botox also has the potential to prevent wrinkles from forming, making it an ideal treatment option for this season and beyond.
Botox is primarily used on dynamic wrinkles, which are facial wrinkles caused by muscle movements like smiling, squinting, and frowning. Botox works by blocking nerve signals to the targeted muscles and relaxing them to prevent skin creasing and stretching. This leads to a reduction in visible wrinkles.
A Botox procedure is a quick and well-tolerated procedure that you can undergo during your lunch break. You may resume your normal activities after your treatment.
In addition to Botox, other neuromodulators that can provide the same wrinkle-relaxing benefits are Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Daxxify®. During your consultation at Coast Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center, Dr. Goldberg will assess your skin and facial features and discuss your aesthetic goals to recommend the best neuromodulator for you.
Dermal fillers can provide some of the same results as Botox. They can smooth out unwanted lines or wrinkles, but they also do something Botox cannot — add volume. Made from gel-like substances, dermal fillers “fill” in wrinkles to restore facial fullness that has depleted with age. Fillers help enhance facial features like the lips, nose, cheeks, and chin. They also refresh the eye area by improving bags and discoloration under the eyes.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the active ingredient in most dermal fillers used today. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body responsible for retaining moisture and giving the skin its plump appearance. Examples of HA fillers we offer at our Laguna Beach, CA, office are Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and RHA®.
Fillers like Sculptra® and Radiesse® work as collagen stimulators. When injected, they stimulate the skin’s natural regenerative process and result in more collagen, one of the skin’s essential building blocks. These fillers work subtly and gradually over time to reduce facial lines and creases and enhance facial contours while providing long-lasting results.
Like Botox, dermal filler injections are a quick and very tolerable procedure. We use very fine needles or blunt-tipped cannulas, and most fillers contain the anesthetic lidocaine to minimize pain during treatment.
3. Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is designed to remove damaged skin and reveal fresh, healthy skin layers underneath. We use the UltraPulse® Fractional CO2 laser to remove the outermost layer of your skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. In addition to resurfacing the skin, the laser stimulates collagen production.
By generating new collagen, laser skin resurfacing can produce lasting anti-aging benefits after your initial treatment.
Laser skin resurfacing is a powerful procedure that treats a wide range of skin concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Sun damage
- Enlarged pores
- Actinic keratosis
Recovery time for laser skin resurfacing typically takes 10-14 days.
4. Radiofrequency Microneedling
Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses ultrafine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. The needles deliver RF energy into the channels to produce thermal energy and stimulate a repair response, resulting in natural collagen production. This enhances the benefits of the standard microneedling procedure. Topical numbing cream is also applied before treatment to improve comfort.
We use Potenza™ — a unique RF microneedling device that utilizes four different RF modes and one-of-a-kind microneedle technology for enhanced topical penetration. Potenza offers a quick, safe, and effective way to rejuvenate the skin.
RF microneedling can help treat common skin issues like:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scarring and other scars
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Skin laxity
Most patients experience minimal downtime following an RF microneedling procedure. Skin redness, roughness, and shedding will persist for several days, but most patients can resume all normal activities one day following the procedure.
5. Skin Tightening
Non-invasive skin tightening devices work to stimulate collagen production in the deeper skin layers and renew the skin from the inside out. These devices target tissue that has lost its tone and elasticity over time. There are many types of skin tightening devices, but the majority use laser energy (such as radiofrequency) to deliver heat to the skin tissue.
At our Laguna Beach, CA, office, we use the Alma skin tightening system. It heats the tissues within the skin’s inner layer (dermis) to a specific temperature. The treatment sensation is often described as having a “warm massage.” The heat triggers a natural response that promotes new collagen production, making the skin smoother, firmer, and more elastic as a result.
Alma skin tightening can be used on the face and body where subtle skin laxity is a concern, and the procedure requires no downtime.
