Juvéderm
With age comes facial volume loss, which can lead to wrinkles. These signs of aging can cause you to appear tired and older than you feel on the inside. Dermal fillers like Juvéderm® can restore your natural facial contours, bring back volume to your lips and cheeks, and smooth away telltale lines, without having to go under the knife.
Here at Coast Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center in Laguna Beach, CA, our board-certified dermatologists are experts who use the full Juvéderm family of products to add subtle volume for the correction of fine lines and wrinkles, folds, and hollowing areas of the face, restoring radiance to your facial appearance. With many products to choose from, we can customize every treatment to ensure the most natural, beautiful results for our patients.
Juvéderm Voluma XC
Juvéderm Voluma XC is ideal for restoring volume to the mid-face, cheeks, and cheekbones, as well as for shaping the chin. You will see immediate improvement after your injections, which will then last up to two years, depending on the treatment area and how quickly your body absorbs the hyaluronic acid. You can maintain your refreshed appearance indefinitely with regularly scheduled treatment sessions.
Juvéderm Vollure XC and Juvéderm XC
Juvéderm Vollure XC and Juvéderm XC work to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds. Vollure XC is formulated specifically to correct these facial changes, as its thick consistency can lift and support creases and folds from deep in the skin. Results from these fillers can last up to 18 months, with regularly scheduled treatments required to maintain your improved volume and overall more youthful appearance.
Juvéderm Volbella
This injectable dermal filler from the Juvéderm family is suited for restoring volume to the lips and correcting perioral lines, as well as for treating the delicate under-eye area, reducing dark circles, hollows, and under-eye bags. Volbella doesn’t cause intense swelling, due to its new, patented Vycross technology that absorbs less water compared to other HA products. Vycross technology also means a more natural-looking and durable result. Volbella is incredibly smooth and soft, which is what makes it ideal for lip augmentation. Volbella also contains the numbing agent lidocaine, which helps reduce the mild tingling or stinging sensation that many patients experience with each lip enhancement or wrinkle-smoothing treatment.
Volbella will last up to one year, depending on the area of the face where it is used and how quickly your body absorbs the gel. Regular treatments will help you maintain your ideal results.
Juvéderm Ultra XC
The Juvéderm Ultra XC injectable dermal filler is primarily used for lip augmentation and correcting the perioral area. However, it can also be used to treat some types of wrinkles.

Do Dermal Filler Injections Hurt?
Most of our patients in our Laguna Beach office experience quick, relatively comfortable injections of Juvéderm. All of the Juvéderm products are administered with a very fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the treatment area and the amount of filler that will be used. Our doctors are happy to administer a topical numbing cream or ice pack before your procedure if you are concerned about discomfort during your treatment.
These injections cause little to no pain. Lidocaine is mixed with most fillers to help numb the area being treated, and the ultrafine needles we use will only create a slight pinch or prick.
What is Recovery Like?
There is no required downtime after a Juvéderm treatment. You should be able to return to your regular activities immediately following your procedure. Your dermatologist may provide specific aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results. It is not unusual to develop a bruise at the injection site, but our doctors do provide topical treatments to minimize any bruising. Plan your treatment with time to heal before any major social or professional events.
It is recommended that you avoid anything strenuous for 24 hours to avoid inadvertently shifting the filler to another location. Until any redness or swelling has resolved, avoid hot or freezing temperatures by staying out of the sun (always wear sunscreen) and avoid saunas, hot wax, and hot tubs, as well as cold activities like skiing. What Looks Can I Achieve With Juvéderm?
Juvéderm facial fillers can be used to achieve improvements previously only created with surgery. Common treatments include a liquid nose job, eye bag treatment, facial shaping, chin augmentation, wrinkle reduction, and lip augmentation.
Lip Augmentation with Juvéderm
Volbella and Ultra XC are the Juvéderm fillers most suited for lip augmentation. They may restore volume and reshape your lips. These products may also be used to treat fine lines around the mouth like perioral lines. Our doctors can create a treatment plan for your specific lip goals.
Non-Surgical Nose Job
Juvéderm can give you the look you’ve been considering with a traditional rhinoplasty, but without the pain, surgery, or downtime that comes with a surgical procedure. A non-surgical nose job, sometimes called a liquid nose job, is performed with a series of injections to the bridge, mid-point, and tip of the nose to correct lumps, bumps, and asymmetries. This procedure can enhance your nose and instantly transform your entire profile.
Juvéderm for Under the Eyes
Juvéderm is a great non-surgical choice for treating tear troughs and orbital hollowing that can appear under the eyes. A series of injections will be completed under your eyes, simulating the appearance of thicker pads beneath your skin and hiding discoloration due to thinning skin.
Facial Shaping with Juvéderm
Juvéderm can reinvigorate your face by contouring and defining your facial features. With precise injections placed in the cheekbones, chin, and jawline, you can achieve your desired look without surgery. These injections can also add volume to hollow temples or reshape your eyes or nose.
Jawline Contouring with Juvéderm
You can define and structure your jawline with the accurate placement of Juvéderm at your mandibular angle, the peri-jowl region, and chin, recreating a youthful, defined jawline.
Juvéderm for Chin Augmentation
Enhancing your chin can enhance your entire face, as the chin is one of the most defining features of the face and neck. As you age, your chin can lose projection. Juvéderm Voluma can be used to add back lost volume and naturally strengthen your chin, without the need for implants or surgery.
How Should I Prepare For Juvéderm Injections?
There is a slight chance for bruising with any injectable treatment. You can lower this risk by avoiding the following products for a few days before your dermal filler procedure:
- Aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
- Fish oil and Vitamin E
- Blood-thinning medications
- Alcohol
Juvéderm FAQs
What is the difference between Juvéderm and Restylane?
Juvéderm and Restylane are two different lines of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. They both carry a variety of products that can be used for different concerns. As long as your treatments are performed by an experienced medical professional, you should see a very good result from either a Juvéderm or a Restylane filler.
Can I combine Juvéderm with other treatments?
People often combine Juvéderm with other treatments to achieve their complete desired look. Botox® is a popular treatment to combine with Juvéderm injections. We use Botox to prevent new wrinkles and Juvéderm to fill existing ones. Studies have even shown that by combining these two treatments, Juvéderm may last longer.
Some patients combine laser treatments with Juvéderm injections. At Coast Dermatology & Laser Surgery Center in California, we have more lasers than anyone in the area, so we can customize your laser treatment for your goals. You may need separate appointments for these procedures to give your skin time to fully heal before receiving another treatment. During your consultation, our doctors can let you know if these combinations could work for you.
Could I be allergic to Juvéderm fillers?
It is highly unlikely that you would have an allergic reaction to any of the Juvéderm fillers. Some patients might react to the lidocaine that is in some of the formulations. However, if you have an aversion to lidocaine, there are many fillers that do not include this ingredient.
How do I know which Juvéderm filler will work best for me?
Each Juvéderm filler features a unique menu of benefits. Our doctors have expertise and experience with the Juvéderm line, so we can help you select the best filler product based on your specific concerns and goals.
What if I don’t like my results?
As is the case with all HA fillers, Juvéderm is reversible. You may elect to have the filler results reversed. Our doctors can inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which may dissolve the hyaluronic acid particles.
Are there risks associated with filler treatments?
There are some risks associated with any treatment, including fillers. However, risks are significantly reduced by working with an experienced physician with expertise in dermal filler procedures. The most our patients usually experience is a bit of swelling or bruising around the injection site for a few days.
Will it be obvious I had a Juvéderm treatment?
When performed correctly, the results of your Juvéderm treatment should not be obvious to anyone but you. Friends and family may comment on how refreshed you look, but the reason behind the improvement will not be evident.
Am I a good candidate for Juvéderm treatments?
You are a good candidate for Juvéderm fillers if you have facial asymmetries or signs of aging you would like to address. While these treatments offer very good improvement in these areas, they do not replace surgery, which offers the most dramatic, long-lasting cosmetic enhancements.
